Getting Started

Armagh Ancestry offers a full genealogical research service for county Armagh and surrounding counties. The availability of relevant Church and Civil records for the area of origin of your ancestors will determine what, if any, research we can conduct on your behalf.

We offer the following services:

Initial Assessment and Index Search – We recommend this as a precursor to any search. This brief and ‘to the point’ offering basically takes all the information you have and one of our genealogists will assess this data and make a full index search of our database (and those of our colleague centres throughout Ireland) and where applicable recommend and advise the client on what research is possible and the relevant fees. The Client can then determine how they wish to proceed.
The cost of this Initial Assessment and Index Search is £40 GBP (Click here to make payment)

Consultation Service

For family historians who wish to carry out some research themselves. Our genealogists will point you in the right direction, advising you of all available sources. Research recommendations will be advised where available. This service is available by appointment only and can be at our premises at The Navan Centre, 81 Killylea Road, Armagh, BT60 4LD or via ZOOM.
The cost of this Consultation Service is £50 GBP (Click here to make a payment)

Commissioned Research

Our genealogists conduct commissioned research. Our local knowledge is invaluable when tracing your Armagh ancestors. Our Initial Assessment and Index Search entails tracing your ancestors using all available sources pertaining to County Armagh. We will then outline all the possible records available on our database (with applicable costs) and/or advise the best avenue for you to continue your quest. If you have a specific record search which you wish us to undertake, please contact us and we can give you the cost of this.

Homestead Tour

Our Homestead Tour offers various packages to allow the client to experience their ancestral home and surrounding area. This involves one of our genealogists searching all the relevant places of interest; schools, Churches, graveyards, historical sites in your ancestral area and then organising a full package for you to enjoy when you visit. This can include a genealogist/local historian being at your service on the day.

Talks & Training

We offer an extensive range of Lectures / Talks on all aspects of Irish Genealogy and also many Irish historical topics. Armagh Ancestry also offers training in all aspects of Irish genealogy and this is ideal for tourism providers. We have a number of accredited Open College Network NI (OCNNI) training modules and these can be delivered individually or as a group. The cost of this service is upon request at: info@armaghancestry.ie

We have indexed many headstone inscriptions for numerous graveyards in County Armagh and we have also computerised the Muster Rolls (1611), Hearth Money Rolls (1666), many Census returns (1766 – 1901), the Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838), the Griffith’s Valuation (1864), land records and local miscellaneous sources for the period 1600-1911.
